Mauritania mediation talks resumed Sunday (June 21st) in Dakar without yielding any breakthrough, local and international press quoted Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio as saying. The meeting sought not to revise the recent agreement between the country's political rivals but rather to address obstacles to its implementation, Gadio said. Deposed President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdellahi on June 4th signed the agreement aimed at restoring constitutional order to Mauritania, even though it did not discuss the junta's ruling council (HCE). Last week, Abdellahi set the dissolution of the junta as a condition for his official resignation. Negotiations continue on Monday.
