Human rights activists in the Middle East and North Africa still face persecution, torture and repression for their activities, Amnesty International (AI) said in a report released on Wednesday (March 11th). The document claimed Morocco continues to repress human rights defenders in the Western Sahara. However, AI praised Rabat for having the Arab world's first "truth commission", created to investigate human rights violations committed between 1956 and 1999.
