Tunisia's former Strasbourg vice-consul will go on trial December 15th in France on charges of torture and barbarity in Tunisia, AFP reported on Thursday (November 13th). Zoulaikha Gharbi filed a complaint alleging that while Khaled Ben Said was a police commissioner in Tunisia, he tortured and humiliated her in the Jendouba police headquarters to extort information on her husband's alleged anti-government activities. This is the first time a French court will try a foreign diplomat for acts of torture committed abroad, AFP quoted Gharbi's lawyer as saying.
