To mark Morocco's special standing in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, the European Union granted the country "advanced status" Monday (October 13th) in Luxembourg, local and international press reported. The agreement is a statement of intent to move towards deeper trade and political ties and rewards Morocco for its progress in modernising government and enacting democratic reforms. The "advanced status" will also allow Morocco to participate in European agencies such as Europol, the European Air Security Agency and the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction.
