Kidnappings part of terror recruitment strategy, Algerian security finds

10/10/2008

Algerian security services are investigating the '"sudden wealth" of families of newly-recruited terrorists and how some were able to acquire "lavish property" in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou and Boumerdes, Echorouk reported on Thursday (October 9th). Terrorists are reportedly luring young recruits by giving parents money obtained from kidnappings and racketeering. Some repentant terrorists have acknowledged that to escape unemployment and insecurity, they joined terror groups which promised to provide for their families, the article adds. In related news, Doukhan Farid, who joined terrorist groups 15 year ago, surrendered to authorities in Jilel, local press reported. Another terrorist laid down arms in Ziama Mansouriah, west of Jijel.
