A Mauritanian delegation is expected to meet with the African Union's Jean Ping Tuesday (October 7th) in Addis Ababa, AFP reported. Monday was the AU deadline for Mauritania's ruling military junta to restore constitutional order and reinstate ousted President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdellahi or else face sanctions.
Meanwhile, following the anti-coup protest forcibly dispersed by police Sunday in Nouakchott, the National Front for the Defence of Democracy decided to hold another march Tuesday. "We demand the immediate implementation of sanctions against the junta, in line with the ultimatum set by the AU, if the military does not give up power," coalition spokesman Mohamed Ould Mouloud was quoted as saying.
