Bomb targeting Algerian army patrol kills six soldiers

08/06/2008

At least six Algerian soldiers were killed and four injured when their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Cap Djinat, east of Algiers, on Thursday (June 5th). Algerian security sources quoted by El Watan on Friday said that a search operation was launched immediately after the attackers fled to the nearby mountains of Bordj Menaiel. The attack on the army patrol occurred one day after a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a military barracks in Bordj El Kiffan.

In related news, Echourouk reported that on Saturday, security services killed two suspected members of al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb attempting to organise a gathering in the region of Tizi Ouzou. According to El Watan, another terrorist was killed Saturday near the village of Zaatra, between the towns of Zemmouri and Si Mustapha in Boumerdès wilaya, and two others were wounded in the same operation.
