The UN Staff Union, representing 22,000 UN workers around the world, called for an independent probe Wednesday (December 19th) into the bomb attack on its Algiers building which killed 17 employees, Reuters reported. Shortly after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon spoke to UN staff in New York about his visit to the two attack sites in Algiers, the employee union called for an investigation into whether security was adequate at its Algeria offices. The group also questioned why the security threat was at its lowest level on December 11th, the day of the bombings.
