The Moroccan government has set aside $61m to fund the September 7th national elections, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday (August 29th). Of the total amount $29.2m is earmarked to organise the electoral process, $24.4m to fund the electoral campaign, $5.4m to distribute electoral cards and $7.3m to review the electoral lists. Thirty-three parties are competing in the elections using a list system of voting. More than 15 million eligible voters will be able to choose between 1,870 local candidate lists and 26 national candidate lists at 38,687 polling stations nationwide. Interior Ministry official Mustafa Kheidri said preliminary results will be released September 8th.
