The Japan Bank for International Co-operation signed a $48.3m loan agreement for the "Jendouba Rural Water Supply Project" with the Tunisian government Tuesday (23 May). The project aims to upgrade the water supply system in the districts of Jendouba and Beja in northwestern Tunisia, which have the lowest water supply service coverage in the country. The project intends to improve the living standards of community residents, boost the regional economy and correct regional gaps.
The loan will be specifically be used for the construction of water supply facilities and the procurement of the necessary equipment and materials, including pumps and water pipes.
