The Washington-based Centre for Study of Islam and Democracy (CSID) will open a regional office in Casablanca to promote research on Islam, democracy, education, equity and freedom in Morocco and the Arab region, said Mokhtar Benabdellaoui, head of the philosophy department at Hassan II University. The centre was founded in March 1999 by a diverse group of Muslim and non-Muslim academics, professionals and activists from around the United States who agreed on the need to study and disseminate reliable information on Islam and democracy.
