On Tuesday (27 December), Kuwait and Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding on Islamic affairs aiming at promoting Islam and its original principles via modern media means in an attempt to address extremist trends violating the religion's principles. The agreement was signed by Kuwaiti Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister Abdullah al Maatouq and his Moroccan counterpart Ahmad al Tawfeeq.
The Kuwaiti minister said that the memorandum seeks to demonstrate the original image of Islam as first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad to the world, while the Moroccan minister stressed the importance of joint meetings on Islamic affairs.
Kuwaiti-Moroccan Cultural Week, which included several seminars by intellectuals and poets from both sides, was held prior to the memorandum. (KUNA)
