Abdelkader Fassi Fehri, director of the Institute for Study and Research of Arabisation and professor of Arabic and comparative linguistics at Mohammad V University in Morocco, was announced as a co-winner of the 2005 King Faisal International Prize for Arabic Language and Literature on Tuesday (27 December). The award consists of a handwritten certificate in Arabic calligraphy summarising his work, a commemorative 24-carat, 200-gram gold medal and a cash prize of $200,000. Fehri will receive the award during a ceremony in Riyadh on 18 February. (MAP, Arab News)
